How to Clean Your New LVP Floors (Without Ruining Them)

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) floors are a dream—affordable, water-resistant, and stylish enough to mimic hardwood without the fuss. But how do you keep them looking fresh without accidentally damaging them?

Whether you’ve just moved into your new place or finished a flooring upgrade, here’s your go-to guide on how to clean your LVP floors the right way.

You don’t need fancy tools or intense scrubbing. For daily upkeep:

  • Sweep or vacuum 2–3x a week
Use a soft-bristle broom or a vacuum with the beater bar turned off to prevent scratching.
  • Use a dry microfiber mop
Great for grabbing dust, pet hair, and crumbs in seconds—no water needed.

Got sticky spots or just want that extra shine? Here’s how to mop LVP safely:

  • Use a damp mop, not a soaking wet one.
  • -Choose a pH-neutral floor cleaner made specifically for vinyl (Bona, Zep, etc.).
  • Avoid steam mops—they can warp the planks over time due to heat and moisture.

Even though LVP is durable, certain cleaners and tools can damage the finish:

  • – No steam mops
  • – No abrasive scrub pads or brushes
  • – No ammonia or bleach
  • – No wax or polish (LVP already has a protective topcoat)
  • – No soaking the floor with water

It doesn’t take much to maintain beautiful, long-lasting vinyl plank floors. A little consistency, gentle cleaning products, and the occasional deep clean will keep them looking brand new.
